Altering like crazy with pan pastels

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my absence but life has conspired against me again and for a while didn't know what else was going to get thrown at me! This also made my mojo decide to go on holiday so have struggled to get anything made that didn't look like "yuk"!

The theme this week over on the Premium Crafts/Pan Pastels Challenge blog is to "alter something" and I knew what I wanted to use but was dreading altering it. This was because I had an idea in my head but didn't know if my fingers would then allow me to translate the idea ..... bit fingers crossed, it's come out 75% as I envisaged ....... !

I started with this old box which used to house nail varnishes ......

and turned it in to this ......

I began by prepping the box with a good layer of Maimeri Gesso and unfortunately for me, it was a GOOD layer and took longer than I anticipated to dry (lol). Once dry I used my newest favourite mask from Premium Craft Brands, A4 Chrysanthemum flower with the Maimeri modelling paste. Again I put a thick layer on and ...... again, it took quite a while to dry .... steep learning curve for me on thickness to drying ratio (hee, hee, hee)! I coloured all the layers with Magenta, Deep Magenta, Raw Umber and Rich Gold pan pastels. It looks so tactile, shiny and warm.

I had a title in my head, "All Mine" and wanted to use some 7 Gypsies metal letters that I have had for eons ... however they were too dark for my project. Yep, you guessed it, I managed to colour them! I covered them in Maimeri Glassy Gel using my fingers (as I wanted a rough finish) and once dry, covered them with Rich Gold metallic pan pastel. They have turned out brilliant ..... even if I say so myself. There is a dilemma though .... should the iridescent dots be pan pastelled too? What do you think?

The wooden hearts and arrows are from Studio Calico and again, they were pan pastelled (Magenta and Bronze) covered with Glassy Gel. Ooohhhh before I forget, I have also used Magenta pan pastel on the reverse of my epoxy stickers so that they matched in with the colour scheme. The same too the large heart too.I have covered the box edges with some Studio Calico paper, pan pastelled and finally covered in Glassy Gel (for protection).

Now the inside of the box is yet to be finished as I am in the process of making a yummy padded interior and haven't quite finished sewing it ...... not guaranteeing when that will happen but has to be done before Christmas !!!

I have used the following Premium Craft Brand products on my project:

Mask stencil A4 Chrysanthemum
430.1 Magenta Extra Dark - Pan Pastel     Rich Gold - Metallic Pan PastelBronze - Metallic Pan Pastel430.3 Magenta Shade - Pan Pastel
Check out both the Premium Art Brands and Polka Doodles websites for lots of PAB goodies ..... oooohhhhh, Santa I promise I have been a good girl.

Right, need to get myself in gear as have so much to do today and not the hours to do it, so rushes off to find my "Wonder Woman" outfit ....
